AVAILABLE POSITION: Executive Director / E.D. of Operations, Staff, & Facility Management
EMPLOYER: Montgomery County Veterans Memorial Commission (501(c)(3) Non-profit Organization)
Position Summary
The Co-Executive Director in charge of operations oversees the day-to-day operations, park and facility maintenance, visitor experience, events, and required expenditures of the Montgomery County Veterans Memorial Commission (including the Honored Mission Veterans Museum, Montgomery County Veterans Memorial Park, Serenity Garden, & future South Campus facility). This role ensures the properties, facilities, and functions of the Montgomery County Veterans Memorial Commission remain dignified, well-maintained, educational, and welcoming destinations that honor American military personnel, American Veterans, and American First Responders.
The position reports directly to the commission Chairman and Executive Directors while working in conjunction with commission staff, volunteers, city/county/state/national representatives.
Key Responsibilities
Commission Operations & Facility Management
•Manage daily operations of the park, South Campus, and education center/museum facilities.
•Oversee groundskeeping, landscaping, monument cleaning/preservation, flag maintenance and retirement protocols (“Retire & Respect”), lighting systems, and general upkeep to keep the parks pristine and respectful 24/7 (with posted hours and closures).
•Coordinate facility readiness for the museum/education center (exhibits, media room, gift shop, offices) as it becomes fully operational.
•Oversee security to ensure compliance with park rules (no unauthorized gatherings/signs/flags, no climbing on monuments, catch-and-release fishing, etc.) and safety protocols.
•Supervise or coordinate contractors, maintenance staff, volunteers and operations staff.
Visitor Experience & Education
•Support high-quality visitor experiences for the tens of thousands of annual guests, school groups, veterans, and tourists.
•Assist with educational programming, tours, lecture series, and interactive elements tied to American military history and each unique Veteran story shared by the MCVMC.
•Help maintain the veteran’s database/The Line submissions process and public-facing information.
Events & Community Engagement
•Plan, coordinate, and execute ceremonies and events (Memorial Day, Veterans Day, Flag Day/flag retirement, flag-raising ceremonies, community outreach such as food drops, and special dedications).
•Manage logistics, volunteers, vendors, security coordination, and post-event cleanup.
•Support MCVMC hosted Veteran programs and flag initiatives.
Administrative & Team Leadership
•Supervise staff, interns, and volunteers; schedule coverage; provide training and performance feedback.
•Manage operational budgets, supplies, vendor relationships, and inventory (flags, maintenance materials, event supplies).
•Maintain records, report on operations/visitor metrics, and support grant compliance and fundraising needs related to park operations.
•Coordinate with the State of Texas, Montgomery County, City of Conroe, library partners, and neighboring facilities.
•Handle emergency response, incident reporting, and security/suspicious activity protocols.
•Contribute to long-term planning for expansions and continuous improvement of the “gift to the nation.”
Qualifications
Required
•Business administration, public engagement, operations management, or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
•Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills; ability to manage multiple priorities in a high-visibility, mission-driven environment.
•Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for working with veterans, families, volunteers, donors, government partners, and the public.
•Proficiency with basic office software, scheduling tools, and willingness to learn specialized systems (database, ticketing/registration if applicable).
•Valid Texas driver’s license and ability to work outdoors in varying weather; flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays for events and ceremonies.
•Commitment to the mission of honoring our American military, veterans, and first responders, with dignity and respect.
Preferred
•Military service or strong connection to the veteran community.
•Experience with memorial parks, museums, historical sites, flag protocols, or public memorials.
•Knowledge of grounds/facility maintenance, event logistics, volunteer management, and nonprofit operations.
•Familiarity with Montgomery County / Conroe community and local government processes.
•Experience with educational programming or visitor services.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Primarily on-site at the parks in Conroe. Combination of office work, outdoor grounds oversight, and event support. Must be able to walk the property extensively, lift moderate loads (supplies/equipment), and work outdoors in Texas weather conditions. Some evening/weekend/holiday work required for ceremonies and events.
